What is Herspiral Contemplative Arts?

Who will you find here?

Contemplatives

Folks who identify as contemplatives tend to be highly sensitive, introspective, introverted, and spiritually-oriented. Though Miriam practices Tibetan Buddhism, there are contemplatives in this community who are primarily Christian, Sufi, interfaith, and more, and even those who are non-specific in their spiritual identity.

Artists

People in recovery from art school or master's programs, folks who are tired of producing writing, photography, and/or other media alone.

Recovering Perfectionists

Leave your Inner Critic at the door. Or, invite them in for tea, while we explore what wisdom is hiding underneath those criticisms.

Photographers

People who love to "write with light", in community, with a contemplative bent. Miriam is a master teacher of a form of contemplative photography called "Miksang" which is Tibetan for "good eye".

Buddhists

Buddhists of all stripes find community and creativity here based in contemplative and meditative practices.

Writers

Identify as a writer, or curious about writing, but can't seem to do it alone? Connect with other folks who love words, and share contemplative practices and connection.

Poets

Writers who focus on image, experience, and lyrical phrasing. Play with words and feeling together in the Herspiral community.

What will you find here?

Herspiral Arts' Mighty Network consists of three main parts:

  1. A public "hang out" area, free for all members, where people can share, practice, post, and read.
  2. Free-for-members specific "groups" oriented around specialized areas: photography, writing, coaching, and haiku. Special features include daily haiku sharing, writing prompts, and photography questions, as well as Miriam sharing from her coaching community.
  3. Paid "Courses" including Miksang photography, contemplative writing classes, haiku classes, and community coaching

What your membership means

What it means to you is that you get to connect with others in an as-private-as-it-gets-online space, and access to content - articles, reading lists, prompts, and videos - that Miriam doesn't share on public social media. You also get first access to courses Miriam is offering, especially brand new experiential things like a contemplative writing facilitator training (which she rolled out in 2022).

What it means to the others in the community is that you bring your specific talents, questions, curiosities, and passion. Community takes you and me!

What it means to Miriam is that she gets to test out new ideas, share in a space with strong intention, and learn from community members in terms of their needs and inspirations. Public social media is an important resource for a lot of us, but private communities like this help make a container where we can set better boundaries and not risk sharing content that might get exploited or misunderstood in public spaces.

Who is Miriam and why did she create this?

Miriam Hall is a contemplative arts instructor and practitioner. She has taught for over fifteen years, and over time has realized the power of communal teaching environments, where she is not the only leader. Miriam loves to create but has a hard time doing it alone - so she has created a space where we don't have to create alone!

Miriam's creativity and teaching/coaching are also grounded in contemplative practices - meditation, prayer, time in nature, nervous system grounding work, writing, photography, and more.

It's hard to make community in-person, much less online. A private community like this one on Mighty Network allows us to enter into the space feeling focused, not distracted by outside posts, and have room to both get to know new folks and ideas and also have a sense that the folks we are interacting with are like-hearted.

What Others are Saying

“Miriam Hall has the heart and head and hands of Writing Practice. Study with her.”

- NATALIE GOLDBERG - AMERICAN AUTHOR, PAINTER, AND ZEN PRACTITIONER

Miriam Hall has devoted her life to creating safe spaces for people to explore the vast depths of healing through writing and photography. What blows me away about being around her is how this practice is gifting me back with tremendous, and innate, creativity. Miriam and her classes are a rock-solid cornerstone of my life.

- KRISTINA AMELONG – RETREATS, FEEDBACK GROUPS, CREATIVE COACHING, WEEKLY CLASSES, MIKSANG, AND SHAMBHALA ART

Miriam Hall is an exquisite teacher. I've taken a number of her weekend classes, and teacher instruction, and have consistently been entertained (a must for me!), stimulated, and inspired. Her students grow more curious and more self-assured in encountering this constantly changing world.
